There have been great Premier League games over the years, but there are some ‘greatest comebacks’ that stick will always stand out for me. Here are some highlights of some of the most memorable that come to mind, the greatest comebacks.
English Premier League Greatest Comebacks
Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal February 5, 2011
I remember watching this premier league game and seeing Arsenal cruising 4-0 then out of nowhere Newcastle clawed it back for Cheik Tiote (RIP) to score an absolute banger right at the end. A great game but I was gutted that we drew that match. However, let’s not underestimate the determination of these sides for a comeback. One of the greatest comebacks in the premier league. Is there any better than this one? I doubt it.
Tottenham 3-3 West Ham October 18, 2020
Some of the greatest comebacks in the premier league are in the games you least expect, this time by West Ham being 3-0 to Tottenham once again a banger scored by Lanzini to equalise and earn a point for his side.
Bournemouth 4-3 March 14, 2024
Bournemouth were 3-0 up to Luton and were able to come back and even emphatically win the game. Sometimes you have to take your hat off and just admire these teams. Although I felt sorry for Luton a game like this would have been three crucial points. The greatest comebacks don’t always involve the best teams in the Premier league.
Newcastle 4-3 West Ham March 30, 2024
Newcastle seem to love a comeback. This one was a bit of a strange game. West Ham seemed to be coasting being 3-1 up until the phantom greatest comebacks reared it’s head in the second half for Newcastle to eventually win the game. West Ham fans should turn away now if they don’t want to see these highlights.
Crystal Palace 3-3 Liverpool May 14, 2014 Crystanbul Classic
This game was looking like a demolition job with the likes of Steven Gerard, Luis Suarez and Dean Sturridge. The South London Eagle under Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park came back with a dogged display.
Tottenham 3-5 Man United September 19, 2001
Let’s re gig your memory with this classic Fergies boys going to White Lane. Spurs smashing United 3-0 at half time. Man United with a spectacular comeback
Tottenham 3-3 Aston Villa October 1, 2007
Vaguely remember this game. Great comeback from Spurs being 4-1 down to tie.
Wolves 4-3 Leicester City January 19, 2019
A thriller at the Molineux stadium.
West Bromwich Albion 5-5 Man United May 19, 2013
Sir Alex Ferguson’s last game in control of United didn’t go completely to plan. The Last game of the season of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, introduced Romelu Lukaku on loan from Chelsea at the time with a great centre-forward display. 10 goals scored in this match. Fans got value for money in this game.
Southampton 3-2 Liverpool March , 2016
Introducing Sadio Mane of Southampton, no wonder why Liverpool eventually bought him. What a player. Liverpool looked like they were cruising after Dean Sturridge slotted the ball in the net.
????????????
I am leaving this space just in case we have a classic comeback in the 2023/24 season before the last game of the season. So the greatest comebacks involve steel of determination, mentality and belief.
The manager, the coaching staff and the fans also play a massive role in driving the team through those barriers. We will always celebrate the greatest comebacks ever, well maybe if your team has bottled it.
