England have named a training squad of 30 players in preparation for the forthcoming EURO 2024 tournament, set to take place in Germany in June. Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson are noticeable omissions. Several uncapped players make the squad, such as James Trafford, Adam Wharton, and Jarell Quansah. The final squad for Euro 2024 can be up to 26 players, but it thought that Southgate will cut the squad down to 23 by June 7th.
England go into to the tournament as one of the favourites, having got to the final of the last tournament with Italy eventually winning the match on penalties. Head coach Gareth Southgate has received criticism for picking players who are not in form but the omission of Henderson is surprising given how senior a figure he has become in Southgate’s England side.
Rashford’s form as not been very good this season and with the emergence of Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer this season, plus the excellent form of Phil Foden it is perhaps less surprising that he misses out, although his 17 goals under Southgate and his tournament form may suggest otherwise.
England has two warm up matches coming up: A friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James’ Park on the 3rd June followed by a fixture against Iceland on the 7th June at Wembley stadium, before heading out to Germany.
