Tell us about your background? Where are you from? And what do you do?
My name is SNY, I am a Music Producer and a brand owner from Birmingham.
When did you get into clothing and streetwear fashion?
I’ve always been into fashion from an early age because of my older brother and cousins. Seeing them growing up in the early 2000s wearing Avirex, akademiks etc and then me getting their hand-me-downs made me start loving fashion from very early.
Could you tell us about your clothing brand? What makes your clothing brand stand out?
SLMPD CO® Is a sustainable, motivational lifestyle brand refined by Streetwear, Street Art and street Culture in the UK. The diversity behind the name of the brand is one of the unique reasons SLMPD CO® stand out today; as well as the limited capsule drops & exclusive high-quality apparel.
There is always an element of fun, art or substance within our clothing. A message or a deeper meaning. The word ‘Slumped’, in UK slang means to be relaxed, laid back & chilled. Our garments are made with that in mind for maximum comfort & high quality.
We dont seem to follow ‘trends’ or what other brands are doing, we do what we do and what we think looks dope!
We don’t seem to follow ‘trends’ or what other brands are doing, we do what we do and what we think looks dope! Also, our consumers/community also have a very hands-on approach with us utilising social media in a way where we let our community vote on specific colourways, drops, and designs with the ones getting the most poll votes being put into production.
This gives them a very hands-on approach to the brand, not only feeling like they are wearing something dope but having a feeling that they are part of something and created something. We also run events at our Pop-Up shops such as Music Cyphers where our customers can come down and get involved. It’s more than a clothing brand. We are a community.
Tell us about the creative process between your streetwear pieces? How do you approach current trends?
The creative process is inspired by everyday experiences or things I see around me. With our stuff being heavily graphics-led apparel. We try to tell a story through our Capsules. We try to capture the UK street and music culture and translate that through fashion. We dont follow trends, we set them.
How does your brand engage with the community? Tell us about your role as a Music producer?
Our main way of engaging with the community is through our Pop-Up shops. It gives our customer base a chance to come and meet the team and feel part of the community. We also have games, music cyphers, food and drinks, and networking going on to keep everybody engaged and feel part of the bigger picture.
We leverage social media by getting our community involved by answering polls and questionnaires and having input on the brand’s journey. I also am a Music Producer, which I did before starting my brand.
Have you had any collaborations?
I’ve worked with many established UK artists from the Rap and Grime scene such as JayKae, P-Money, Wiley, Bugzy Malone, Hardy Caprio, KB, and many many more all over the UK.
What does 2024 look like for you?
2024 we will continue to push the core ethos of the brand. More dope designs, more pop-up events across the UK and more wins. Stay tuned in with us on this journey as it’s only just beginning! SLMPD 2DA WORLD!!
