TikTok is ramping up the development of a feature that could potentially rival Instagram. The feature, called TikTok Notes, is a separate app designed for images and text. While TikTok previously adapted its platform for images, it now appears there will be a dedicated space for this type of content. Users with images and text content are receiving notifications alerting them to this upcoming change. Even with a potential ban in the United States, the Chinese company are not stopping being ambitious.

This move is another example of social media platforms copying each other’s features. Instagram recently launched ‘Threads,’ an alternative Twitter-style feed, to challenge the ‘X’ platform that is losing its appeal among many users. However, this may not have worked out as Instagram had hoped. Instagram successfully launched ‘Reels,’ similar to TikTok’s Stories, which has been widely adopted and successful on the platform. There is so much copying happening as brands are desperate to retain market share. It’s no surprise that TikTok is now looking to introduce a new alternative to an existing feature.

For content creators, this could be an exciting development. There is potential for content to go viral through tags and shares. Whenever a new feature or platform is launched, there is an opportunity to reach large audiences before algorithms become more refined and frequently updated. While photos and text may seem like old news, many people prefer these formats to be more creative, and not everyone is comfortable being filmed or surveyed for opinions. We will keep a close eye on developments, as the launch date has not been fixed but is mentioned as ‘coming soon.’
