Kevin Campbell 1970-2024

Nothing can prepare you for the inevitable. We understood Kevin Campbell was in a coma and was not well. Today we learnt of Kevin Campbell passing away through social media. As an Arsenal fan, I watched Kevin Campbell play at Highbury in the 1990s.

Born in Lambeth, South East London. Campbell joined Arsenal in 1985 aged 15 for the Arsenal Academy. Campbell became one of the country’s deadliest youth strikers, scoring 59 goals in a single season. In the pecking order, Campbell always had strikers like Alan Smith and Ian Wright ahead of him, but he was still an important piece of the Arsenal jigsaw puzzle.

Kevin Campbell was a fascinating player to watch. Powerful right foot, good in the air with great upper strength. An era when teams played the famous 4-4-2 formation with two strikers up top. Campbell went on to win a Division 1 league title FA Cup and a League double.

Kevin Campbell struck me as a very likeable person, a family man, a media pundit. He was also a music man too. We will miss you, Kevin. Sending condolences to the family, friends and relatives.
