Admiral and MUNDIAL have teamed up with the Bob Marley estate to recreate the iconic fashion worn in London’s Battersea Park by the global icon and his band to coincide with the release of the film Bob Marley: One Love.
I really like this collab because of the authenticity of the collection and the way it has been reproduced. Certainly Admiral are not a market leader in Sportswear currently although they were the top guns of football kits in the 70’s in the UK, but in collaboration with Soccer media outlet MUNDIAL they have done a really nice job here capturing the time and style of the influential pieces.
Bob Marley and his band used to go for a kickabout in the famous park in South West London before recording sessions for their Legendary album Exodus in 1997. Here are some great pictures of the band in their gear which has been brilliantly recreated in the current release.
The Admiral x Bob Marley home football shirt, crafted in collaboration with MUNDIAL, celebrates Marley’s passion for football. This limited edition shirt draws inspiration from Marley’s legendary matches at London’s Battersea Park, merging football and musical history.
Embodying the spirit of Marley’s time in London, the shirt prominently features the iconic “Exodus” album as its central sponsor. Available in two versions the jerseys have some nice features and touches. The Yellow and Green home jersey features a leaf-like pattern on the Green sleeves which also features on the body of the Away jersey and a Red, Gold, Green and Black finishing rib on the sleeve.
The number 12 adorns both the front and back, paying homage to Marley’s jersey in the “Am/Jam” Team during a historic match against Haiti in Miami in 1980—his final football appearance. 12 may be concerning Bob’s religious practice Rastafarism. The 12 tribes of Israel are fundamental for its members and above the 12 is the symbol of Rastafari – the conquering Lion.
The first Battersea Park recreation is Admiral x Bob Marley “Rico” graphic t-shirt design, inspired by Rico Rodriguez MBE, legendary Reggae trombonist, was worn by band members during Bob Marley’s famous series of matches played at London’s Battersea Park. It features in a short and long-sleeve version and looks great, the Gold base colour and Red print are distinctive and also look ideal for social occasions away from the park.
Lastly, the iconic tracksuit is recreated excellently. The exclusive top which like the jerseys features the MONDIAL branding replicating the letter ‘M’ also has a print of a ‘Peace and Love, Rasta’ message and signature by Bob is designed with inspiration drawn from the legendary navy tracksuit top donned by Bob Marley whilst playing ball in Battersea Park, London. Also available for sale is the tracksuit bottoms or track pant, with navy as its base colour and red trim. This iconic photoshoot has since become a legendary tale in the realms of both football and music and now, clearly has inspired fashion – I am really impressed with the range on offer.
Prices range from £45-70 and sizes from small to Double XL. It’s unclear how many pieces have been made and whilst I don’t think this collection will sell out over night, undoubtedly it will sell out. The Marley Estate have worked some nice collaborations in football in the last few years with Bohemians and Ajax Football Club and has their name on several products such as beverages and audio equipment. Quality has been the consistent theme which makes their products even more appealing for the collector and fan, so I would not be too slow in purchasing this latest line of fashion.
